Brice Oates

What do you get when you blend a sweet mix of Midwest charisma and a passion for candles? Meet Brice Oates, also known in social media as Brice The Candle Guy.

Growing up, “candles were never on my radar,” says Oates, whose passion was acting. While attending the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in Los Angeles (AADA) —home to notable alumni from Anne Bancroft and Grace Kelly to Adam Scott and Jessica Chastain— he took on a day job at The Candle Delirium packing boxes for incoming orders. Little did he know it would become an integral part of his life and identity.

Being from Wyoming, spending time in the woods and farms was part of the DNA of a rural environment. Therefore his first recollection of scent comes from the outdoors. And so, fragrances were always alluring to Brice. He recalls his mother’s perfume bottles on her vanity, an image that remains quite vivid in his mind.

Miles away from Wyoming, Brice feels at home in Los Angeles. Interacting with customers and helping them find the right candle or home fragrance, is the motivating factor for Brice. He understands the impact that a candle or a scent can have on people, as it’s usually attached to memory, therefore triggering an emotional response.

As we continue our chat he shares with me that being asked questions feels somewhat strange to him, as he is usually the one asking the questions, “I find people fascinating, and I don’t need to be asked questions, I would rather understand than be understood”.

After 16 years working in the industry, his skill set has evolved allowing him to serve as a development and creative consultant for companies, as well as having created a personal line of his own. (Vintage 27). With notes of tobacco, leather, and vanilla, Vintage 27 quickly sold out, to nobody’s surprise.

He currently finds himself burning Baobab by Lazuli in his main living area, as well as some Lafco - Fireside Oak. He likes to layer it with Lafco Hazelnut Terroni, resulting in a combination of a sweet smoky fireplace feeling that is perfect for the holiday season.

“I find people fascinating, and I don’t need to be asked questions, I would rather understand than be understood”.

But no success story is written alone, and Brice knows that. He is currently working with Hanna Bergstrom, (Social Media Coordinator at Redrock Entertainment).

Since Bergstrom joined Brice and Candle Delirium as clients, they have been working on developing his brand #BriceTheCandleGuy and sharing his candle expertise and passion in the ever-changing social media landscape.

“Brice is so knowledgeable. The goal is to make him the biggest candle influencer, but more than that an expert”. Shares Bergstrom, who is originally from Skovde, Sweden, and has been in the U.S. since 2017.

Wearing many hats has been instrumental in Brice’s growth in the industry. His path and experience have been forged by connecting with people on the sales floor. He has developed his expertise by understanding the purpose behind the purchase. This allows him to guide a client from beginning to end while making it a relaxed and joyful process.

He looks forward to seeing where life takes him next, but he knows the importance of being present and enjoying the moment.

If you are looking for the best advice when it comes to home fragrances and candles, look no further. Brice, The Candle Guy, has you covered.
