Paris Laundry X Larissa de Jesús Negrón — “When It Rains It Pours”

PARIS LAUNDRY X LARISSA DE JESUS NEGRON / THE WEBSTER

I have always been an avid fan of fashion, and art, so when I heard Guy Samuel Founder of Paris Laundry had collaborated with artist Larissa de Jesús Negrón on a capsule collection my interest was piqued.

known for her bold and innovative designs, Larissa brings a fresh perspective to the renowned Paris Laundry brand, merging elements of cultural heritage with modern aesthetics. Their partnership has resulted in a collection that seamlessly blends luxury streetwear with sustainability. Most pieces in this collection are one-of-a-kind.

Meeting Guy and Larissa at The Webster in Los Angeles, where the collection currently lives, was like opening a window into the beautiful magic of both these artist’s lives.

Guy’s background was not in fashion, but he started making t-shirts, and hoodies, which eventually took off becoming what we now know as Paris Laundry.

During his upbringing in New York, luxury fashion was a distant thing in Guy’s life. He didn’t have a direct connection to those ideals of fashion, but his mother was a seamstress, which is one of the reasons that his clothes are still to this day made in the city that saw him grow.

Larissa has hand-painted every single piece including the silk scarfs. In Guy’s own words, “Prices are more reflective of her art pieces rather than the clothes.”

Guy Samuel has always been inspired by Japan’s craftsmanship and utilitarian clothing. No wonder most fabrics from his collections are sourced from Japan, while manufacturing is done both in New York and LA.

Larissa’s inspiration for this collection named “When It Rains It Pours” is embued with cultural iconography. In Larissa’s words, “I’ve always used that term optimistically, even though I heard from Guy that it is usually used with a negative connotation.”

Puerto Rico is present through palms, plantains, bananas, and the water. Nature is a clear source of inspiration behind Larissa’s work.

Having been born and raised in Puerto Rico, there is a palpable yearning for the island that’s represented in how she approaches her art.

Every piece of clothing acts as a canvas. Spray paint and acrylic are quite durable so no fear to walk out in the rain while wearing a piece of this stunning collection.

“From wearing masks to the use of stencils, there is a lot of love and labor as well as attention to detail,” says Larissa who is incredibly proud of this collection.

For both Guy and Larissa, the collaboration won’t stop here. The possibilities are endless for them, and I’m sure we will be seeing much more of these two talented artists.

The time invested in each piece is one of the things people might not realize when seeing this collection. Both Guy and Larissa want people to know that behind each piece there are countless hours of work. “From wearing masks to the use of stencils, there is a lot of love and labor as well as attention to detail,” says Larissa who is incredibly proud of this collection.

You can find the “When It Rains It Pours” collection at The Webster LA, as well as Paris Laundry stores and the official website.
