Walking into the majestic yet intimate Walt Disney Concert Hall felt like the perfect pairing to “Unstill Life”. A wonderful performative conversation between Benjamin Millepied and Alexandre Tharaud.

We have been given the rare opportunity to witness the work. Not only as a result, but the work in progress, the exploration, and the connection to source.

Being present seems to be such a challenging thing nowadays. So it is a testament to this intimate performance, that allowed us to be present. The attention to detail, the respect for the craft, the movement, the rhythm, and the music were the pillars of the entire show.

A wonderful performative conversation between Benjamin Millepied and Alexandre Tharaud.

From Bach to Beethoven and Schubert, Unstill Life’s melodic journey serves as a window into the life and playful relationship of Benjamin and Alexandre.

This performance felt like we were waking up alongside Millepied in his childhood home, listening to the music that used to lift his body and soul every morning. Music was embedded in his upbringing.

Millepied and Tharaud gracefully showcased how powerful and impactful connecting to a source can be. Experiencing life in such a raw and wonderful way, impacted every moment of the show.

In Alexandre’s words “As a child, I wanted to become a dancer, irresistibly drawn to the Paris Opera, while Benjamin dreamed of being a pianist, before becoming the great dancer and choreographer we know. For lack of talent, I did not pursue classical dance. The piano welcomed me with open arms.” And the rest is history, the story of two talented young men who from an early age felt the calling in these two art forms collide in this intimate project. Not to be missed.
