Ziggy Chen Fall / Winter 23-34
VIGLUMSY
Article by Miguel Sagaz.
Who would have thought that teared-up fabrics, fragmented patterns, and erratic folds could form a beautiful cohesive garment? That is the case of VIGLUMSY, Ziggy Chen’s Fall / Winter 23-24 collection.
Paris Fashion Week Menswear week proved to be an inspiring time. From show to show, presentation to presentation, the quality and imagination this season did not disappoint. But it was Ziggy Chen who captured my interest in a different way with his latest collection.
VIGLUMSY showcased an unapologetic view of the present by connecting the past and the future.
In search of inspiration, Chen ventured on a journey of exploring old and clumsy objects. Every garment has a story, a past, and a future. There is something incredibly modern in Ziggy Chen’s designs, yet carry the weight of life. It seems like every piece has experienced some struggle, and finds new meaning in today’s world.
I could imagine every look not only in my closet but as beautiful creations of a futuristic film, set in a post-apocalyptic era. Sounds extreme, but not many designers have the talent and possess the skills needed to capture that balance between storytelling and practicality.
This collection is intended for men and women. The garments share the same spirit yet are tailored with different silhouettes. Even though we are used to expecting heavy fabrics for a winter collection, Chen’s use of linen is notable. Linen, hemp, cashmere, velvet, and cotton are also stars of the show.
The colors, mostly olive green, crimson, and tan allow the buyer to style each piece in a variety of ways making it timeless, and therefore also a conscious purchase.
In a world where sustainability in fashion plays an important role, I believe Ziggy Chen’s evolution is tapping into the current zeitgeist in the most memorable way.
